TEAM HISTORY

As mentioned on the front page, many of Gouletarian State's members were the original founders of the Jackson Underground Dodgeball League.  Rather than recapitulate information which is already stored elsewhere, read about JUDL's founding HERE (a section of the main JUDL website).

At JUDL's first tournament, the 2003 Spring Invitational, G-State members went by the team name Kool Mo-Dees.  Dressed in mod wear, the Kool Mo-Dees had a good run at the title, but eventually fell to the Willow Wisps in the championship match, 2 games to 1.  The team consisted of Josh, Lucas Walker, Ricky Feiner, Matt Shayphr, Jon Reno, Charles McDonald, and Brian.  G-State members Tim Nicolai and Brett Price were absent for the 2003 Invitational.  Tim was in New York City, and Brett was probably off doing homework somewhere.

Gouletarian State returned at JUDL's first ever Summer Slam, held in August 2003.  With Jon Reno and Brett Price out working diligently on the cultural phenomenon Thunderblah! (the release date was the following day), G-State, under the name River City High School Reunion, dominated throughout the tournament, going undefeated.  Hard-fought matches were abundant, however, as the team faced the famed Vulgar Display of Power in the semi-finals.  RCHSR members included Josh, Lucas Walker, Ricky Feiner, Matt Shayphr, Tim Nicolai, Brian, and Pat Kennedy.  Pat was a late mercenary addition to the team at the insistence of Nicolai because he thought he was so good.  He was right.

Gouletarian State returned at the 2004 JUDL Invitational, where they faced their biggest challenge yet in a field of 13 teams, the largest showing at a tournament in JUDL history.  Under the name 7 Tickets to Paradise and with the benefit of a first-round bye, 7 Tickets barely bested The Studs/The Fuckers in the second round and swept the Dirty Sanchezes in the semi-finals, culminating in a final showdown with their rivals, Vulgar Display of Power.  Running low on time and energy (the lights were about to go out), 7 Tickets took game 1 and nearly swept Vulgar, but Vulgar came back from a 9-2 deficit to salvage game 2.  However, 7 Tickets pulled out a victory in game 3 and sealed their second consecutive tournament championship.  Team members included Josh, Lucas Walker, Ricky Feiner, Matt Shayphr, Jon Reno, Brett Price, and Brian.  Tim Nicolai was again absent for the Invitational, deciding studying abroad in London would be a more worthwhile experience.

M Members of Gouletarian State also competed at the National Amateur Dodgeball Association's 2004 Dodgeball Days Outdoor National Championships on July 24 in Schaumburg, Illinois. Under the team name Gorilla's Choice, G-State made the long trek to the Chicago area and placed 2nd in NADA's 16-team co-rec division. Not accustomed to the traditional form of dodgeball played at Schaumburg, Gorilla's Choice struggled through pool play, but came into their own in the single elimination tournament despite their low seed, besting three teams in hard-fought, to-the-wire matches before being swept in the finals. Team members included Josh, Brian, Tressa Honaas, Brittany Beil, Ashley Jones, Matt Shayphr, Ricky Feiner, and Brett Price.

Gouletarian State hit a snag at Summer Slam 2004, being ousted in the semi-finals by Mediocrity at its Best, led by.................. Cole Jenkins.
G-State assumed the name That Team That Eats People and Takes Their Faces.  Further reflection revealed that the true reason the team lost was due to confusion at how long their name was.  TTTEPATTF got a first-round bye and overcame Yeah, Yeah, Smoke All Day and Get That Hay in a classic second-round battle.  The roster included Josh, Ricky Feiner, Matt Shayphr, Tim Nicolai, Jon Reno, Brett Price, and Brian.  Lucas Walker was absent, as he was scantily-clad in Ohio playing a Native American at the outdoor drama, Blue Jacket.

The 3rd annual JUDL Invitational, held on March 18, 2005, marked the first time the entire roster was present for a tournament, despite Lucas Walker's somewhat debilitating neck injury. Extremely pumped and sporting their best uniforms ever, Gouletarian State received a first-round bye and battled valiantly, but lost to Skillz that Killz in the second round, 2 games to 1.
