02.25.04 – “To love is a journey you make on your own, and if you don’t take the chance, the angels won’t dance” – The Highwaymen

Recent Movies: Aliens, Comic Book: The Movie, Big Trouble in Little China, Batman: Dead End
Music: Kansas, AC/DC
Literature: Batman: The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller
Games: Metroid: Zero Mission (Gameboy Advance), Parodius (Arcade)

Well, it was a very good weekend, one that I badly, badly needed. There’s only so many super-busy weeks of school followed by crappy weekends that I can take. I missed Lucas in Full Tilt on Saturday on account of my own blazing stupidity. First, I washed my car, which the cats promptly walked all over. My dad actually wiped off the cat prints yesterday morning because he thought my car looked so nice. Anyway, back to Saturday… when I was done washing my car, I wiped my hard drive and spent the afternoon putting stuff back on, and totally forgot about a homework assignment that was due by midnight. When I got that done, it was too late to go to Full Tilt. Now I feel like a mega jerk… sorry, Lucas.

Fortunately, it was still a great weekend. Dodgeball was fun and I got to hang out with my friends, which is a luxury I apparently don’t have these days. There was a lot of talk later that night—no TV, no video games, just talk. It was great, and the night was more than enough to cheer me up until, say, today. Even though I missed Full Tilt on Saturday, Josh and Brett invaded my house later that night, so the day wasn’t a total loss. Then on Sunday, there was even more dodgeball (albeit one game… not my fault, Davis). Good times, but they didn’t last long.

On Monday, I had not one but two essay tests. The first one was not so bad (even though I doubt I did well). The second one… ehh… let’s just say I’m extremely worried about it. Essay tests are too much pressure; intelligently answering four or five questions in 50 minutes is hard stuff. Like, three questions in 75 minutes is very doable, but not this, and not two in one day. And I just now got done studying for my French test tomorrow. Three tests in three days, and it’s not even time for mid-terms or finals! If I had to describe this week, my choices would be A) Ouch, That Hurts! B) Why Are You Doing This to Me? and C) Please Let Me Die. I like B, personally.

I don’t think I realized how busy I am until tonight. The only reason I have time to do this weblog entry is because I’m putting off something more important, I’m sure. I don’t even have any real papers to write, but there are a ton of reading and homework assignments that are piling up in front of me. I can’t even read what I’m typing right now, so plaese ingor spelling erorrs, thanks. It’s a good thing I’m not doing any extracurricular activities right now, or I would probably die. I don’t know what I was thinking when I put together my schedule for this semester. What a terrible error. Taking an 8 AM class or two would have been better than this. All the while, I’m also trying to leave time to work on stuff I want to work on, but it’s not going well. Spring Break: 13 school days and counting…

To think, it was only a couple of hours ago tonight that I was considering getting back into Ultima Online. I dug up some old stories and chat logs and such for a little project I might start in a year or five, and I got the hankering. The isolationist part of me wants to go back, but the social, money-saving, get-good-grades part of me is not willing to give up what little time I have to play a computer game like that again. Sorry, UO, you lose… for now.

I think my birthday might be coming sometime soon, but I don’t know what to think of it. By the time it does come, I might be too tired or too busy or not in the mood to do anything about it. Not saying I don’t like birthdays, but it’s the truth.

Whew, end of the line. Goodnight, folks.

02.05.04 – “One learned to pray, one loved to fight, we were born and raised in black and white.”

Recent Movies: Darkman, Army of Darkness, Alien
Music: The Highwaymen – Highwayman 2, KMFDM - Nihil
Literature: Batman: The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller, lots of school books
Games: Parodius (Arcade)

The neatest thing about Army of Darkness is that I got to watch it for a school project. It’s an appreciation essay on the performance of Bruce Campbell. The essay is aptly titled “Well Hello, Mr. Fancy Pants!” on account of all of my analysis and other pretentious crazy talk regarding a movie nobody should ever be expected to watch for a purpose other than laughing.

Motherboard update: I returned the defective one and got an email today that said they don’t carry that kind of motherboard anymore and they are going to refund 82 bucks on account of the warranty. This is what I wanted since I… y’know, already bought a newer, better one. If you deal in PC parts online, I highly recommend NewEgg.com for hassle-free returns of defective products, which you may or may not get a lot of. Me? I get a lot.

Despite the fact that I’ve caught myself complaining less lately, I was still pretty down after my inspirational “gonna start looking at things differently” comments from the last weblog. But I talked to some people—rather, some people talked to me—and I’m feeling quite a bit less like “nobody cares” and am generally feeling pretty well. You folks know who you are… thanks for setting me straight. I sure do like having such great friends.

School is still going well, as far as I can see. I don’t have any grades to show for it yet, but at least I’m not dreading going to any of my classes. Lots and lots of reading is keeping me busy, and this semester I’m actually doing it, as opposed to last semester when I didn’t read anything and Sparknotesed my way through most of the short stories and poems and other literature stuff. It worked, but this way I’m less afraid of exams and papers.

I hope you’re enjoying the Ohio Adventure so far. I’m glad it’s finally done, as I felt bad for not just getting it done right away and then telling people over and over again that it was “almost done.” However, in the course of it being almost done, I would change my mind about something or decide to do something different with it, which eventually caused it to not be almost done. At first, it was just going to be a recap of everything that happened, but then I decided I wanted to actually make a story out of it and add some illustrations and a title graphic that I can, without ego, say I’m pretty proud of. Additionally, I’m massively lazy, so a lot of excuses went into its delay. The Ohio Adventure itself was also delaying a lot of other projects I have coming up that I am really looking forward to, but YOU are not allowed to know anything about! (Ha!) A smart or reasonable person would have just moved on to this other stuff, but I’ve never been either of those things, so there. Anyway, I hope you like it—it’s probably the longest non-school thing I’ve ever written, and this is what I’m supposed to like to do and what I’m going to school for. I should probably get to work, huh?

Eh, I think I’m done for now… hope you got your fill of me. Ohio Adventure, Part Two should be up on Saturday.
